12 Days of Giving

I have found that giving can be one of the most rewarding experiences you can have.   I personally love anonymous giving.   There was a time when I didn’t think about it much, but then one time remembered how excited my grandma was when someone left an envelope of money in her mailbox.   She truly needed it and was beyond grateful for it.   I have found myself doing this for others now.  The first time I gave anonymously, was at Walmart.  I saw a man with 4 little girls.  Their hair wasn’t brushed and their clothes worn and somewhat dirty.  You could clearly see they were sisters, and poor.  He had milk, bread, beans and rice in his basket.  My heart immediately sank.  I remember those staples….that’s what got us through our hard times.  He happened to get behind me in line and I couldn’t help but watch those little girls standing quietly as their dad put the groceries on the belt.  As my items were being rung up, I asked the clerk for a $50 gift card.  After I paid, I handed it back to her and quietly asked her to give it to him after I walked off.  She just smiled.  I wanted to give so much more but we were having a tough time ourselves, but clearly not as tough as they were.  I don’t know what he thought or how he reacted, as I never looked back.  I only hoped I helped. I believe I was there at that time for a reason.

Sometimes we help by giving our time, items, and money. Sometimes we feel like we can’t do much at all and it’s worthless but trust me, there are so many ways to give.  What I love about this time of year, is that companies do special campaigns that allow us to participate and help give to others.  This year, Walmart is donating 1.5 million dollars to nonprofit organizations and YOU get to nominate someone to receive that.  Through November 18th, nominate a nonprofit organization that you deem worth of receiving a generous amount of money.  It’s a simple form, asking basic questions about the organization.  On December 10th, Walmart will announce the chosen ones through their 12 days of giving.  Here is just one of the winners from last year….

During this holiday season, there will be many more ways to give through companies. Some will ask you to nominate, some will ask you click, but either way, take a moment and do what you can.   Perhaps you can check out last year’s winners or who has been nominated this year and help support those organizations.

Happy Giving!

Disclosure: I am an official Walmart Mom. Walmart has provided me with compensation and gift card in return for my time & efforts to create this post. My participation in this program is voluntary and my opinions are my own, always have been, always will be.
